It's taking such a long time for my new character to be ready!

The character registration robot processes many requests each day. The requests are broken down into two pieces.

In the first piece you fill out the webform and provide a valid email address. (Hotmail and Yahoo style email accounts are not acceptable.) The moment you hit 'Submit' on that form, the registration robot creates your character here, effectively reserving your name instantly.

In the second part of the application process, the registration robot writes you some email asking for you to reply with a secret key, which it will provide. When the secret key is returned to the robot, it will
set a special property on the character to mark it 'validated'.

Coupled with the administrative review by the wizards of individual character requests, this last stage can take up to 72 hours. i.e. If you validate your character on Friday afternoon, it may be Monday evening before you can log in. The registration robot will send you email telling you it has finished
the work.

Be careful to save your password, having to wait an additional two days to recover it would really suck.
