The Deadlands
Second of the three great collectors, Glut lies deep within the vast swamplands of the czath territory. Here, amid lifeless bayous and acidic stillwater, the great tower rises nearly a hundred feet into the air, spilling from its floodgates a continuous and unending stream of noxious, oily ooze, slowly extending the lifeless swamplands around it across the face of the continent. As one moves through the swamps towards the collector, the dead trees and vegitation become bone-white, and the chilling silence wears upon the nerves of even the bravest of souls. Glut is frequently referred to as 'The Deadlands'.

Glut is not so much a fortress as an area, perhaps no more than a few square miles, existing slightly out of phase with the rest of the plane. This is due to the unstable nature of the collector, perhaps a flaw in its design. As such, one passing into this area becomes shrouded in near darkness and total silence. Here, there is no sun, only a gloomy burgundy sky framed by wild tangles of dead branches. There is no wind, no life, just a wasted bayou of bleached white trees and cold black stillwater. More eerie are the skeletal animals, which prance silently through the dead landscape, pausing to stare at living travelers with their vacant eyesockets.

The undead dragon, Molochon, defends the collector, living deep within its base and feeding off the dark energies resonating from its twisted surface. Driven mad by the sheer concentration of the Wasting, Molochon's insane shrieks can be heard for miles around, echoing through the bayou like shrill thunder. The undead beast's body is saturated in a thick, greasy black oil that seems to be a tangible, concentrated form of the disease, corrupting all life it touches. Molochon is perhaps the most feared of the three Spiral overlords, and certainly the most vicious. Those unfortunate souls sent to deliver messages to the mad abomination rarely return alive, much less sane.

The Collector

The great radius of devastated vegetation seen on the map has been caused by this, the second of three soul-energy collectors built by the Spiral to alter the world of Rym for colonization. Ambient life energy is absorbed by the dark tower, and melted down into a thick black ooze similar to crude oil. This thick, toxic mass then smothers the landscape around it, choking off the soil and poisoning both plant and animal life. The shattered spirits that compose this ooze give it a sort of twisted, tortured sentience, with which it has animated a guardian - Molochon. Even if the undead dragon were obliterated, the collector's root would remain, allowing it to rebuild.

The tower itself is a porous black ziggurat, driven deep into the unstable soil of the ancient swamp, and rising nearly a hundred feet above the twisted, stunted vegetation. It is unusually difficult to see from any great distance, appearing as a hazy, indistinct column, but its effects are clearly evident throughout the region. A region nearly one hundred miles across has been completely destroyed, its essence absorbed and converted by the collector, which in turn spreads its decay outwards. While it appears to be slowing down, this is not the case - its expansion is simply coping with a larger and larger surface area. In another hundred years, it will have consumed most of Slank.

The thick ooze produced by the collector is typically referred to as deadbile, which undead beings can consume in order to heal their broken, failing bodies. As such, it is a highly-prized commodity for the Spiral, who also use it in large quantities to smother areas of particularly troublesome natural beauty. A significant quantity of the liquid is pumped through a converted pipeline system to the temple of Karsus, two hundred miles southwest of the Deadlands. Here, it is poured into great iron vats and shipped out by boat.
