Godsmaw is a black citidel rising out of the bone desert around it. To the east and west rise the jaws of Halus, forming an alien mountain range in the dead landscape. Like vultures, the servants of the Eater were first attracted to Rym by the aura of death surroundind the fallen god, Halus. They came through dark stellar doorways and first settled here, in what is literally the fallen god's mouth. The first to come were horrific, alien abominations that adapted their relative size and shape to accomodate the local conditions. Once enough of them had gathered here, they began to spread out over the undefended world with the intention of bringing it to the Eater. The city of Godsmaw is a dark stone sprawl of nightmare architecture, built first by the dead, now maintained by slaves. The population is difficult to measure, as the only permanent residents are the Spiral priests and certain powerful undead beings. The vast majority of the population are slaves, who are worked to death and then raised as zombies to continue their labor. Piles of bones line the streets; an instant militia or workforce available for the priests to command. At its highest level of activity, the city contains some twenty thousand beings.
The city's layout is quite unusual, as those who control it have entirely different needs than those of a living community. Most of the structures are composed of a hard black resin called necril; a substance made by the Spiral though an alchemical/necromantic process that involves the liquification of corpses. This process melts bone and flesh into a thick black sludge that can be used much like cement. This liquification process is often rushed, so that small fragments of unmelted bone or vague humanoid features can be seen fused into the dark surfaces. The material is quite strong, about twice as durable as wood, and just as light. It doesn't burn or shatter, and is not subject to parasitic infestation. Spiral architecture is stark and minimalistic, very military. Rows upon rows of dark necril crypts, towering obelisks and black streets washed with skirls of white bone dust give Godsmaw the appearance of a highly evolved graveyard. There are no taverns or inns, no shops, no signs of individuality. There is no crime, no money, not even food, and thus the only slaves who stay alive for long are those willing to eat the dead. The city is eerily silent and its very nature is such that most animals will not voluntarily come within miles of its dark walls.
The city is ruled by the Spiral Order, a conclave of six high priests who report directly to advocates of Vauz. The members of this conclave control the majority of Godsmaw's production through undead labor, and are capable of imparting fragments of their own collective intelligence upon the undead beings they control. This allows for simple animated beings like skeltons or zombies to be given more complex tasks, such as construction or blacksmithing. Though not as well equipped as Vauz itself, the city still produces a great deal of weaponry and armor for the ever-growing Spiral armies. Most of their labor force never sleeps, and requires no food, shelter, or upkeep. As such, production levels are both constant and relatively rigid, restricted to basic military supplies and the black resin, necril.
