The Desert Oasis

Only the gorgs could find a way to charge money for plain water, and this is where the idea originated. An experiment in supply and demand, the gorg-owned and operated oasis provides a welcome relief from the sweltering desert heat. For a price. The oasis is walled off; only the peaks of palms can be seen above the heavy stone perimeter. To gain entrance, one must present a suitable gift or a quantity of wealth that is usually proportionate to the traveler's desperation. The oasis is the only one of its kind within the savannah desert; the gorgs had Arcanar wizards destroy the rest to increase the demand. This has had the unfortunate effect of turning this region from savannah to full-blown desert, and has resulted in the veritable extinction of all local wildlife. Their bones can be seen scattered around the walls of the oasis resort. No money, no admittance.

But the oasis is far more than a common watering hole. The gorgs have invested a great deal of money in the construction of a luxurious desert resort, a place where exhausted travelers can sleep in a goosedown bed, enjoy a lavishly prepared meal, rent a harem, lose all their money at the casino, and end up being thrown out. Indeed, few can afford to stay for long - prices here are quite steep. For instance...

The Main Resort

Rising above the deep azure oasis is the grand Golden Dunes Resort. A true piece of gorgish architecture, it was designed to provide its guests with comforts rivaling the famous resort of Pleasure Beach, while simulataneously robbing them blind. There is a place to spend (or lose) money at every turn, including numerous souvenir shops, casinos, and attractive hustlers who help loosen the purse strings. The ground level is made of of two large gaming parlors, a swimming pool, a theater, and several wide plazas decorated with fountains, statuary and potted cypress trees.

The resort is managed by a merchant family from Haf'Azal, who visit on occasions in order to check the books. They also arrange for the entertainment, bringing fresh talent in from all over Haun. Security is handled by the czath, but for the most part, the resort staff are human - numbering close to five hundred. Like most gorg structures, everything is built in a large scale, including the beds, baths, and meal portions. Guests are treated like royalty, which they might as well be, considering the astronomical costs. The gorgs have discovered that by rounding prices down by a single coin to avoid factors of ten, they increase their profits considerably - this is why everything within the oasis is priced as it is.
