The Reef Graveyard

The high concentration of salt in the water surrounding Vauz has cause the once-thriving belt of coral reefs in this area to die off. All that's left are grey and brown skeletons, buried in shifting drifts of silty sand. From below the waves, it resembles a devastated landscape stretching for miles in every direction. The decay is also caused by the presence of the Spiral itself, and the Wasting is spreads. Crossing this stretch of ocean by boat is nearly impossible, as the skeletal reefs form a sort of maze, with many areas of shallow water and protruding shoals that will destroy the hull of even the strongest galleon. Swimming isn't much safer, as the jagged maze of coral still contains certain large predators. Enormous moray eels and certain types of shark seem attracted to the aura of death surrounding this place, often venturing out to the healthier parts of the reef near the Cekus chain in search of prey and returning to the graveyard to sleep.

In the time before the War, this coral kingdom was the domain of Mera, the ocean goddess. Some believe that buried below the dead reefs lie the remains of her domain. Magnificent artifacts and secrets rest here, somewhere, though finding them in the thousands of square miles of ocean and reef would be close to impossible. Inhabitants of this regioninclude giant, badly scarred sharks and eels, as well as certain hardy varieties of urchin. Dead sections of reef may also be animated by the dark priests, growing out of the water to impale ships or swimmers. Furthermore, the Spiral have instructed the czath to begin combing the graveyard for signs of Mera's lost kingdom, and thus the reptillians may also be encountered here in small groups. This is a very dangerous areas.
