The Wasteland

As might be expected, this large region is covered in cracked hardpan and dust, a vast plateau of ruined landscape. This area was once covered in rolling hills and woodlands, lakes and rivers, now reduced to shifting sand and crumbling ruins. This is where the majority of the fallout ended up, tainting the land with radiation. At night, the ground glows very faintly, as if reflecting moonlight, and any living being walking through this area runs the risk of lethal exposure and a slow, lingering death. Only powerful healing magics can undo this sickness, which will remain long after the victim leaves the region.

There are a great number of skeletons found throughout the wasteland, mostly the remains of upper-planar beings such as celestials, unicorns, fae, and so on. This was the army of the gods, which faced off against the Machines during the Twilight War. As powerful as those shining beings were, they were no match for the cold mechanical perfection of the Machines, and their bones now lie scattered across the landscape, some large enough to be seen from miles away.

"They say that the sickness caused by the radiation can make your hair fall out, or rot your bones, or draw the life right out of your blood, or some other such thing. You'd hardly notice it up close, but from a high vantage at a distance, it glows like a retinal burn. Stay away from this place." - Haxle

The wasteland is full of treasure, unpilaged remains that have been swallowed by the desert over the centuries. It's possible that one could somehow protect themselves against disease and try to enter the wasteland in order to search the ancient battlefield for treasure, but the harsh temperatures alone are enough to cause even the hardiest of travellers to succumb.
