Can I make an exit 'transparent' so that looking into it actually shows you the description of the room beyond it?

@set exitname=_look_through?:yes will do the trick. You can get more information on how to fine tune it with:

look #help transparent

The exit may be locked and still be transparent, allowing you to have a "window" that people can not step through.
