No link to Special:Recentchanges? It's a key tool . . . GreenKai 22:37, 31 March 2007 (PDT)

You know, I was kinda puzzled why that does not show up in the toolbox by default, along with a few of the other special pages. I was trying not to make the boxes on the side so long that they pushed the search box out of sight, so I was resisting (and am) adding too much junk. WhiteWizard 04:44, 1 April 2007 (PDT)
Can't see to add things to the toolbox through this interface. I'm guessing it's contents are hard coded in the theme or something? WhiteWizard 05:07, 1 April 2007 (PDT)
The toolbox is really meant for links relating to the current page (they are somewhat dynamic). As far as I know, its contents are predefined by the wiki engine. It would probably be possible to move the search box up if you were worried about it getting lost - it has a CSS id of p-search, class portlets. p-navigation, p-information and p-wiki could be moved down to make space. Edits would be made to MediaWiki:monobook.css, though you could test them in User:WhiteWizard/monobook.css first, if you have custom user CSS enabled. Or, since you control the server, you could just use this modification to the code. GreenKai 17:49, 1 April 2007 (PDT)
Well, that hack will make things a bit nicer, considering how important searches are on a Wiki. I never understood why it was so far down the side. There is still so much I need to learn about this beast I have. O.O Sometime when I'm bored and not trying to fill out the site I'll probably write a custom theme.
Anything else you'd like to see in the box with Recent changes? --WhiteWizard 19:06, 1 April 2007 (PDT)
If you're looking to expand, I'd recommend a link that offered some help in actually editing the wiki, as people aren't necessarily going to know how to do that, or where they should be starting. WikiFur's help covers several areas, from technical editing help to wiki policy (which, like MUCK policy, tends to evolve slowly over time). Of course you are probably in the middle of figuring wiki policy, so there might not be much of that to put there yet. GreenKai 23:15, 4 April 2007 (PDT)
