Page

Page is a built-in MUCK command to privately contact another player in any room in the MUCK. Like most MUCKs, Tapestries uses a global page program that overrides the built-in version. Contrast this to the Whisper command, which works similarly, but only operates in the same room as the whisperer.

Basic Usage

In the following examples, Player1 is the original pager, with Player2, Player3, and Player4 being example receivers of pages.
Command line:
page player2=Hi, what's up?
Player1 sees:
You page, "Hi, what's up?" to Player2.
Player2 sees:
Player1 pages, "Hi, what's up?" to you.
Command line:
page player2 player3 player4=Hello!
Player1 sees:
<code>You page, "Hello!" to Player2, Player3, and Player4.
Player2 sees:
PLayer1 pages, "Hello!" to you, Player3, and Player4.
In the above, each of Player2, Player3, and Player4 would see the same message, except that their names would be replaced by 'you'. The order is maintained.
It is possible to turn a page into a long-distance action by the use of the pose shortcut, a colon ( : ).
Command line:
page Player2=:gives you a hug.
Player1 sees:
You page-pose, "Player1 gives you a hug."
Player2 sees:
In a page-pose to you, Player1 gives you a hug."
For multiple recipients of a paged pose, the name list works exactly like it does for a non-pose multiple player page, with the page-pose wording.

Other common uses

There are a few other common uses of the page command. One is telling someone where you are. Let's assume Player1 is in Fox Plaza. There is no multiple recipient version of this, and the error message which occurs when a player first skips the = in the command syntax is the first clue to many that this function exists.
Command line:
page Player2
Player1 sees:
You have sent your summons to Player2.
Player2 sees:
You sense that Player1 is looking for you in Fox Plaza.
Another common usage is to reply to the last person to page you. Instead of typing their name, you can use the #r format, and the name of the last person to page you will be automatically substituted. To reply to all the recipients of a multiperson page, use the #R format, and both the sender and any other recipients will receive the message you send.
Example command lines:
page #r=Hey there!
page #R=:goes on a hug rampage!

Haven

Occasionally, a user may wish to not receive pages but otherwise be available for special functions (like the ringing of a bell. The HAVEN flag prevents all forms of non-local communication and may not be suitable. The page program used in Tapestries has a 'haven' setting which only applies to page. To activate it, type "page #haven". Should you wish to receive pages again, type "page !haven" and the page-specific haven setting will be turned off.
