Say is a core function of the MUCK, allowing people to talk freely. It is usually abbreviated to '"' (a doublequote). Like most commands, say is limited to a single room.

Syntax

For the purpose of these examples, please assume the player entering the commands is named Player.

Command line:
say Hello, World!
Result:
Player sees:
You say, "Hello, World!"
Others in the same room as Player see:
Player says, "Hello, World!"
Command line:
"Hi, how are ya?
Result:
Player sees:
You say, "Hi, how are ya?"
Others in the same room as Player see:
<code>Player says, "Hi, how are ya?"

Usage notes

  • The say command will automatically generate a closing doublequote; adding one yourself will lead to having a pair of doublequotes finishing your post.
  • Because the say command adds a closing quote, it is generally of limited value in adding an action to your pose. For that, the Pose command may be a better option.
  • While the say command uses a default of 'say/says', this default can be changed. The simplest way would be the Player Hammer program, which allows easy player customization of several variables.
