Based on experience with other mucks, I strongly recommend a 1:1.5 time ratio. Even integers end up with problems where players based on timezone can never enjoy the game/setting except at particular times of the day or night. If you have a ratio that isn't integer-locked, you get some nice rotation in activity.

(Unavoidably, you also end up with some days the peak time rolling around through 4am IC time, but that's a small price to pay not to have people in the game be forced to be nocturnal, etc.)

1:2.5 was often found to be too fast.

Of course, these timelines are always intended to be guidelines anyway, as in reality, writing a conversation that would take just a few minutes to say out loud can span hours of real-time writing.

(In fact... has anyone considered going for a 2.5:1 time ratio? It would make for some LONG days, but...)
