Aquablue

Creator Ruins: Active (Technology 19)
Purpose: Weather Control

Aquablue is the name given to this deep-sea outpost, once a centre for research and exploration of the Deep (see Cekus). The complex survived the Collapse fairly well, and is still maintained by the City Mind, complete with life-support and climate control. During the last days of the Collapse, many of the scientists here turned to untested stasis technology in the hopes of outlasting the disease and famine spreading over their dying planet. They rest here to this day, entombed within their faulty stasis booths deep within the complex, nothing more than withered shells.

Aquablue is the control centre of the Creators' weather control device. This magnificent device is capable of altering the weather of the entire planet, or an area as small as a town or city anywhere on Rym. In effect, the machine can 'Control Weather' and scry on any planetary location just like a Crystal Ball (locations only). The rest of the complex is fairly simple, with living compartments, power generators, bulkheads, and so on. Oddly, the interior is quite clean and dust-free, maintained by a series of small service Machines.

Aquablue cannot be accessed by conventional means. There are teleportation pads somewhere within the Emptiness that allow movement between the surface and the undersea complex located at Eternity Station (see 'Eternity Station), though these are guarded by the Transit Processor. The complex is also the location of a series of artifact suits. This magificent armor provides tremendous strength, speed, and protection to its wearer, as well as excellent mobility in aquatic environments at any depth. These five suits are located in Aquablue's main sealock.

Des Hypertronics Deepsuit (Artifact)

Armor (as 'Full Plate +5')
Provides:
Water Breathing, Strength 20, Move 18, Sw 18

The Deepsuit was an experimental piece of diving equipment designed for underwater exploration. It provides its wearer with an unlimited amount of air, heat, and nutrients through a special gel-like creature living within the suit itself. This creature is non-intelligent, similar to an ooze or jelly, only beneficial. It heals its wearer at a rate of one hit point per turn (as per Ring of Regeneration), as well as serving to cushion impacts within the suit itself and providing insulation against fire (as per Ring of Fire Resistance). Any non-magical attacks that actually beat the AC of the Deepsuit only inflict half damage, more from impact (there are no chinks in this armor). Movement is slightly assisted, and the suit augments the wearer's strength considerably. The suit can only be worn by humanoids of size M, and has an unlimited power source. As it is non-magical in nature, its powers cannot be dispelled.

Vulnerabilities: While wearing the Deepsuit, an individual is unable to speak or cast spells, and vision is reduced by half (-2 to hit). Worse, its hands are not articulate enough to wield normal weapons. All it can do is deliver blundgeoning attacks (1d6 damage). Finally, each time the suit is hit by an electrical attack, there is a 1% chance per point of damage inflicted that the gel-creature will die, and immediately suffocate the wearer (instant death). This also overloads and destroys the suit.

Ollie no! Bad! What are you thinking putting powered armor in your world? He's thinking, well, how is anyone supposed to get to Croethus and put an end to the horror? Of course, that means a nice underwater trek across the bottom of the Deep, avoiding hulking black leviathans and hideously mutated crustaceans. Even with water-breathing spells, the raw pressure and cold down there would kill the bravest of heroes...they need some help. Anyone can put on one of these suits...the gel organism inside (called a Biote) will fill in comfortably. The PCs could have lots of fun trying to understand the stuff the suits say, not to mention getting into (or out of) them, and sharing a clausterphobic enclosure with a living slime. Even Rym can have its lighter moments.
