Namespace titles in category pages

I am considering the use of another namespace for different reasons than policy, but... I have one problem with it so far. If I insert something from, say, Location: into a category Category:Locations, I can control it's sorting by specifying a sort string, but I can't figure out how to control the display of the 'Location:' on each entry. Is it possible to suppress that? --WhiteWizard 20:01, 2 April 2007 (PDT)

This question was previously raised (and not answered correctly there). One solution that could apply here but not elsewhere is modifying the code to add a new magic word. I asked a member of Wikia to give a more general solution and he suggested a combination of onload JavaScript and a div tag used as a marker, as demonstrated on Template:catnoprefix and User:GreenKai/monobook.js (should theoretically be in common.js as it appplies to all skins).
This works great for WikiFur's published news category. Unfortunately it doesn't work here because you're on an old version of MediaWiki which doesn't specify id="mw-pages" for that particular div. The 1.6 series is missing quite a few new features from later versions which are not essential, but which are nice to have. You could probably find the relevant code and add it in, or upgrade the whole site. The javascript would go into MediaWiki:Common.js. GreenKai 23:51, 3 April 2007 (PDT)
Unfortunately MediaWiki is suffering from one of the great diseases of open source: They insist not on using commonly available libraries, but whatever happens to be the latest at the time of development. In this case 1.6.x is the last version to support the version of php available under stable debian, which is what we are using with our hosing provider. (Redhat is even further behind, at least the version they offer.) So short of rebuilding php and all it's dependencies and all the stuff that would break, I'm using 1.6.x until the next stable debian is released.
Guess I'll have to look at the code. That's probably in the theme, it should not be hard to find. -WhiteWizard 07:38, 4 April 2007 (PDT)

WikiFur interwiki change request

WikiFur is moving to a new host shortly, and our domain name will be changing from furry.wikia.com to en.wikifur.com

If you could update this wiki's interwiki table to reflect this when you get a chance, that would be nice. We cannot guarantee the old URL will remain available, as it is under our prior host's control.

The new domain should work both before and after the switch. GreenKai 15:12, 12 June 2008 (PDT)

Would you be willing to make me an admin on Taps wiki? I could do a better job of dealing with the linkspam if I had admin priveleges. Thanks! --Strom 06:35, 28 July 2009 (PDT)

It really needs some anti-spam extensions, like the ones used on WikiFur ([1] [2] [3] [4]). GreenKai 13:20, 9 September 2009 (PDT)
