Existing building applications

From Tapestries MUCK

Jump to: navigation, search

It's nice to see new areas being mulled, but I hope something can be done for existing applications in the building queue. Wildhaven Park, for example, has had a completed application since mid-2007, and since the demise of the Rescue Center there isn't really anywhere designed for "feral" characters to feel at home; nor can ad-hoc areas be created without threat of sanction. The same could be said for the Orchids Cafe, which caters to an under-served minority on Tapestries.

While some of these applications may fit into the mould of a strict-RP-focussed area, many do not, and I'd be disappointed if the only way to see them created was for them to become one. I'm not saying this should fall on your shoulders specifically, but I'd hope the leadership worked to resolve issues for existing members before seeking to attract new ones. Many people prefer to use RP-centric MUCKs nowadays, but that's in large part because the building queue has been moribund for all groups.

Tapestries doesn't need fast-tracking for special projects; it needs a single track that works. There was a burst of activity earlier this year. It wouldn't take all that much to get things going again.

I agree with some of these things. However, I can really only speak for my area of responsibility, which is the RP area. The building is a means to an end for me, and the RP region, when the time comes, will require a certain amount of "startup" real-estate to give a variety of roleplay settings.

In general, WhiteWizard is the building wizard and building in the main areas of Tapestries, and we haven't discussed where the responsibility for the new region's building will fall once it's set up. I can broach the topic with him if you like or you can submit a request linking to this talk page and asking about the building queue. That might be best.

Sorry I can't be of more help in this at this time. :(

Thanks for the reply - and it's OK, I know it's not your area of responsibility. It's just kinda frustrating to see progress, but not in the areas you care about. :-)

I do hope the RP region works out, as I'm sure there are many people who'll be interested in it.

I also share your sentiment about the vast amount of unused areas. My take is that, in the idea of creating a 'world' experience, we haven't managed to gain enough players to make USE of a world so large. There are so many empty buildings whose builders haven't logged in for years and years... and empty spaces where either buildings use to be or never got used. While it would be a HUGE undertaking... and I might even be talked into doing a rather gregarious walk-a-bout and compiling a vast list of such things (you'd have to really sweet talk me though and it would take quite a while to finish)... such a compilation could be used to "reshape" the world by eliminating areas where there is no activity at all anymore and consolidating things easier to make everything more cozy and accessible. New Tport patterns could also help... the public ones we have now take us to many places where only dustbunnies live and play. Areas can always be added once the userbase grows enough to support such things but, until then, it's a lot like being in a city build for 10 million that only has 1,000 residents. Lots of empty streets and buildings and everyone huddled together in one place mostly. :(
